Points of sale systems are available as per the organization's needs, from basic processors to complex cloud systems depending on the form and scale. In general, they are categorized into three types:
Mobile POS: A Mobile POS system or m-points of sale system uses an electronic device such as a Smartphone, mobile device, or another mobile device as a terminal on which a credit card reader can be connected. It's highly portable and enables many peripheral devices such as barcode scanners and receipt printers to be connected.
Terminal POS: A POS terminal is a device based on software/hardware that holds additional peripherals such as barcode scanners, credit card readers, receipt printers and cash drawers. These systems have comprehensive capabilities including inventory tracking, monitoring and analytics, receipts of purchases via email, CRM, and loyalty programs for clients.
POS Cloud: A cloud POS is an online or web-based POS that can easily be used with their current hardware like a computer, laptop, and printer. These devices have all the features of a POS terminal. For data centres which are operated by the POS provider, a cloud points of sale system is installed.
